- Weight Fluctuation: The yo-yo effect is a result of a slowed metabolism and the vicious cycle of weight loss/weight gain and can lead to lasting obesity.

The Cabbage Food Diet
Yes, cabbage may have been a staple food to the people of Ireland during the Great Potato Famine, but that is no excuse for you to subject your body to famine-like terms. You will tire of eating the same thing over and over and over again. You will also deprive your body of essential nutrients (see Nutrient Deficiencies above).
The Grapefruit Diet
You don’t actually eat only grapefruit, you eat one before each meal and drink plenty of fluids. Grapefruit are a diuretic and will help your body purge water weight at first but it’s wholly unsustainable. Plus, over time the acidity of the fruit can lead to painful stomach ulcers.
These are considered single food group diets. Eating a single food is impossible and would lead to organ failure. How many heads of cabbage or grapefruits can one eat in a lifetime? The dangers are deficiencies and cravings due to boredom, in other words not only going back to your regular way of eating but probably indulging bad eating habits which means weight gain.
Detox diets don’t actually work. You’re essentially just flushing your system with some type of “natural” cleansing product and losing the water weight. Not to mention, just drinking juice all day can lead to major constipation or irregular bowel movements because you’re not ingesting actual fiber.
The Master Cleanse diet is a hoax. You will lose water weight and once you eat solid food again, the pounds are back.
These unhealthy diets are in the same category, they will leave you very hungry for solid foods will slow your metabolism which will make it more difficult to lose weight in the future, and fatigued. There is also a high risk of dehydration.
The Tapeworm Diet
Ew. Just, ew. The idea of living with a parasite inside of you is unsettling, to say the least, but these things can also grow up to 30 feet and cause terrible health problems from chronic headaches and diarrhea to epileptic seizures. If this isn’t the best example of unhealthy diets, we don’t know what is.
Calorie restrictive diets are tricky, especially considering that most people are familiar with the concept that weight loss = more exercise + less calories. This can actually lead to unsustainable and unhealthy diet practices that will further frustrate you and derail your fitness goals.
When it comes to weight loss, choose wisely between safe weight loss and unsafe diets that don’t work. If you have ever been tempted to go for the quick and easy way to lose weight, raise your hand. Short term, if you are young and very healthy and strong you may not have felt the adverse effects, but believe me, don’t try it again, instead choose patience and commitment, you will be glad you did. Your body may bounce back from crash dieting now, but later, maybe not. Think twice before you try unhealthy diets.
