Eat , Exercise, Sleep: How To Stay Healthy This Summer

The cold months have passed and now we want to stay healthy this summer. Yes, we ate too much during the holidays, we said we’d back on the wagon in Spring and now we don’t have the body we wanted to go to the beach. Don’t beat yourself up for it. You can start anytime, anyway you want, because there’s never a specific time for a change, especially for a good change!

Stay healthy this summer with these easy tips

Eat fresh: stock your fridge with tons of fruits and vegetables, even frozen. Summer is the best time to experiment on cold recipes, so try new smoothies, acai bowls, smoothie bowls, fruit and yogurt, etc. The options are endless, but make sure you fill up with healthy choices. Stop buying junk food, don’t even have it at home. If chopping and cutting fruit is too much, buy the pre-cut bowls. And don’t forget about salads! Go crazy! Add everything you like and more -no sweets though ok? Chop lettuce or have spinach handy and chop other veggies a few days before. You can even pre-prep a salad and put it in mason jars so you have them ready to go, just add dressing! Get into fresh meal plans so you can free up evening time for fun activities (or stay at the beach longer).

Exercise: some people love to run when it’s the hottest day of the year, most don’t. Find summer friendly ways to keep moving even in the summer months. Buy a pool pass to stay healthy this summer! Swimming is amazing for you. Go on hikes with friends. Exchange lunch dates for walking dates! Another great option if you have air conditioning at home is to find videos of workouts you can do at your own time. You won’t even have to wear workout clothes!
If you don’t have anyone to work out with and don’t want to do it at home, join a group boot camp! The social aspect is great and most of them have 5 or 6 am classes when it’s not too hot! It’s early but so worth it!

Sleep: this is as equally important as eating healthy and exercising. Get your 8 hours, more when you can. If you’re not getting at least 8 hours it means that something has to go in your life. Make a list of the must-dos and prioritize. We don’t have to do it all, but we do need sleep.
If you’re having trouble falling asleep follow these tips to help you get a better sleep to stay healthy this summer:

  • Make a Lavender linen spray: spray it on your pillows before you go to sleep to help you sleep better and deeper.
  • Use an eye mask or have the room pitch black
  • Say bye-bye to the cell phone and tv before you get to your room: your brain needs to unplug and electronics over stimulate it so you won’t be able to unwind as fast.
  • Use a fan or white noise app if noises outside disturb you.
  • Before bed, take a hot bath with lavender oil and epsom salts. This combo helps your muscles relax and prepare for the night.

Other essential tips to not only stay healthy this summer but all year round is to drink water. Obvious, right? If you don’t like plain water, spike it up with fresh fruits and cucumber! They help you detox and will give you radiant skin while hydrating you. Also, let go of stress! Like we mentioned, make a list of all the things that are stressing you out and if you can scratch them off your life, do so! Stress is a huge factor in an unhealthy lifestyle leading to a bunch of unhealthy choices!
